ATMT® Testing & Certification

Purpose of ATMT® Testing and Certification

ATMT® Certification sets the standard for measuring maintenance worker knowledge. Obtaining certification from the nation’s leader in maintenance training will provide you with the documentation you need to positively demonstrate your knowledge in the workplace.

This optional testing and certification may be used by the employer as part of a qualified electrical worker program, or other internal safety or training program. It can be used for assessing the training needs of workers, and can be used by the individual to demonstrate his knowledge to an employer.

The exam can be taken online or as a timed test on paper. Online tests are non-proctored. Paper tests can be proctored or non-proctored. Proctored testing ensures the validity and consistency of the test and gives credibility to the final score and certification process. As a result, proctored tests carry more weight and significance than non-proctored tests and certification documentation will mark that distinction. By request, American Trainco may authorize a person at your company to be a proctor so that you can administer your own exams at your convenience. Non-proctored testing can be done at any time. Please contact us  for more information at 866-211-5231 or by email at testing@americantrainco.com.

About the Exams

Exams consist of 50 multiple choice questions taken from a larger bank of questions. The order of questioning varies from test to test to help ensure validity. A score of 70% is required to pass the exam and receive ATMT® (American Trainco Maintenance Technician) certification. Most people who study and have received prior training will score in the 70% to 85% range, which is considered “good” for these tests.

These exams are not designed to only test knowledge learned in an American Trainco classroom!

Created as a standalone product to be used with or without our training courses, these exams are slightly broader in theoretical scope and require additional self-study. Therefore we recommended students review our study guides before taking an exam. It is not uncommon for students to fail the exam if they don’t study!

Study guides are not allowed to be used when taking exams, either online or in written format!

For those companies with qualified electrical worker programs, this combination of training and testing helps address the "demonstrated knowledge" and "received training" aspects of the qualified worker definition.

If you have already taken MTAA (Maintenance Training Association of the Americas) testing through American Trainco, your scores and results are transferrable for purposes of receiving ATMT® certification. MTAA no longer offers testing as part of its mission and has entrusted American Trainco with taking over that responsibility. Please contact our testing administrator at 866-211-5231 or your sales representative for more information.
