Section 608 of the Federal Clean Air Act requires that all persons who maintain,
service, repair, or dispose of appliances that contain regulated refrigerants, be
certified in proper refrigerant handling techniques. Categories of technician certification
that are available include…
- TYPE I Persons who maintain, service or repair small appliances must be certified
as Type I technicians.
- TYPE II Persons who maintain, service, repair or dispose of high or very
high-pressure appliances, except small appliances and motor vehicle air conditioning
systems, must be certified as Type II technicians.
- TYPE III Persons who maintain, service, repair or dispose of low-pressure
appliances must be certified as Type III technicians.
- UNIVERSAL Persons who maintain, service or repair both low and high-pressure
equipment, as well as small appliances, must be certified as Universal technicians.
Testing for EPA certification is optional. While we cover all necessary material
for taking the test and make every attempt to help our students pass this exam,
we cannot guarantee individual success. Therefore it is recommended that students
who want to take the test attend both days and plan time to study the night before.
You will be mailed a study guide in advance of the class or you can download a copy
of the study guide on the link at the top of this page.
