College Credit Recommendation

ACE's College Credit Recommendation Service (CREDIT) connects workplace learning with colleges and universities by helping adults gain access to academic credit for formal courses and examinations taken outside traditional degree programs. What this means in simple terms: ACE reviews courses and organizations in order to determine if the organization is fit to provide college level education and recommend how many college credit hours their courses are worth. Admissions officials and registrars then use the college credit guides to determine the number of credits they will accept at their institution when you apply for a program of study.

FAQs

How much is 1 college credit hour worth?

A traditional semester long college course (48 - 52 hours of class time) is worth 3 college credits, therefore it will take 3 American Trainco courses to equal one standard college semester course.

Where will my American Trainco College Credits apply?

ACE Credit Recommendations are generally accepted at most colleges and universities, however, credits may be declined, reduced or increased based on the individual institution, curriculum designs and credit transfer policies. Please check with your college or university on acceptance of ACE recommended credits for American Trainco courses.

Do I automatically earn college credit when I successfully complete a course or examination that has been ACE approved?

No. Successful completion of such a course or examination results in actual course credit only when the course is accepted toward a degree or certificate at a postsecondary institution. If you have already taken one of the courses or examinations, or plan to take one, you should contact the admissions office at the college you plan to attend to determine the acceptability of the course for academic credit.

How do I submit their college credit to a college or university?

First contact the college or university to see if they will accept American Trainco college credit recommendations approved by ACE. If so, the institution may contact American Trainco directly for transcript information or may accept the certificates provided to the student. In some cases, the student must request a transcript from American Trainco and we will send the information directly to the institution of their choice. Transcript fees may apply.

Does this make American Trainco an accredited college or postsecondary institution?

No, but it allows us to interact with postsecondary institutions in working on certificate or degree programs with them.

Does everyone that attends an American Trainco seminar qualify for credit?

No. In order to gain college credit recommendations, a student must satisfy both of the following conditions:
1. Attend all days of the course.
2. Successfully pass the MTAA test or required projects for the class.

What if a student attended the course but did not take the test? Can they go back and take the test for credit?

Yes, with limitations. We will allow any student who has taken a course with us in the last 6 months to back and take the tests.
